Real life story problem

This is why you should learn arithmetic.

Question:

My son had a fever, and was taking Advil for infants.

According to the instructions, he needed 1.875 ml every dose.

However, we ran out with only 1.25 ml left, and only Advil for children was available.

How much Advil for children do I need to give my son?

Answer:

Since there is 50 mg in 1.25 ml of Advil for infants, he needs 50 x 1.875 / 1.25 = 75 mg of Ibuprofen.

He has already taken 1.25 ml, which has 50 mg.

So he still needs 75 - 50 = 25 mg more.

Advil for children has 100 mg per 5 ml, so I need to give him 25 / 100 x 5 = 1.25 ml more.

AT&T

We have new neighbors moving in, and AT&T was setting up their land line last Saturday.

At around 12:41:55, our internet connection went out.  (They can't fool me.  ;))

We noticed a guy messing with the phone connector box, so we tried our phone, and didn't get a call tone.

I went out to have a chat with the man and he said he could take a look after he's done setting up our neighbor's.

He said it could be a while, so it may be faster to call the 800 number and have another technician come over.

I called the 800 number, and they told me that the earliest they can send a technician was on Tuesday.

So I told him I'll just wait for him to get finished.

He put this gadget on the modem, and did some testing, and fixed it up in about 20 minutes.

So our total outage was about two and a half hours.

This is actually the second time this happened!

The last time was when WE moved in, they cut off our next door neighbor's line.

So if a you're getting new neighbors, it's a good idea to check when they are going to have their phones set up.

1/4 Violin

The kids love playing with the violin.

I learned the violin for about 3 years, more than a quarter century ago.

As you can hear, I wasn't that good at it.  :|

Pon likes to play with it.

Frozen!

Our children love "Frozen", just like the other billions of kids around the world.  :)

To reduce screen time, I've extracted the audio from the DVD, and this is what they are mainly exposed to.

I think this actually stimulates the "visual memory" part of the brain, and help them associate the sound with the story and images.

They've only seen the movie a handful of times, but they pretty much know it by heart.

This is watching the Japanese "Let it Go" on YouTube.

Happy New Year 2015!

New Year Resolutions sound very goal-ish, so the only one I will make is "Be happier today than yesterday."  :)

新年の目標を立てるのは控えることにしたので、「前日よりも幸せになる」だけにします。

Went to the Mitsuwa Marketplace in Torrance before open.
